Knowledge is Power Maths Intent Pupils will: Key concepts: become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through Number varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over Pattern time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to Shape recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately Space Measure reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing Geometry relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, Statistics justification or proof using mathematical language Algebra Reasoning can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and These key concepts are revisited persevering in seeking solutions within and across year groups so that children become fluent and master the curriculum. Respect Challenge Confident Curiosity Ambition for Excellence! Knowledge is Power Approach to teaching Maths Respect Challenge Confident Curiosity Ambition for Excellence! Knowledge is Power Maths coverage At Bradley Green we have created our own coverage maps using the White Rose overviews. We removed some of the objectives that could be covered in other areas of the curriculum to allow more time in the maths curriculum to work on number and calculations we believe that children need to develop a secure sense of number. Respect Challenge Confident Curiosity Ambition for Excellence! Knowledge is Power Mathematical fluency We believe that ‘Knowledge is Power’ and so in addition to the daily maths lesson, children will have additional maths opportunities to practise known/basic skills. (This may take place in a morning or an afternoon but should last approximately 20 minutes.) We have created a maths overview for each year group that contains specific skills to be recapped each half term, which revisit a variety of skills including those taught in previous units as well as in previous year groups. Respect Challenge Confident Curiosity Ambition for Excellence! Knowledge is Power Task design Pupils will be working on the same task but may need additional support, apparatus or scaffolds to help them to achieve success. Teachers should carefully select questions to facilitate depth of thinking and challenge. Tasks should be derived from a range of sources – White Rose, Convince me cards, Classroom Secrets, Testbase, Open-middle (website), Isee Maths, NRICH and NCETM. Ensure children do not have too many representations at any one time. Respect Challenge Confident Curiosity Ambition for Excellence!
