PROJECT TEAM PMBOK® Area – Project Human Resources Management Develop Human Resource Plan Creating a staff management plan that identifies and documents the reporting relationships as well as each team member’s role, responsibility, and required skills Acquire Project Team Confirms that specific human resources will be available to work on the project Develop Project Team The processes to improve the competencies of the project team, their interactions, and the overall team environment Manage the Project Team The tracking of the project team’s performance, providing feedback, resolving interpersonal issues, and managing organizational change We will discuss about: - Formal and Informal Organization - Roles of Project Manager - Real Teams vs Work Groups - Learning Cycles - Project Environment FORMAL ORGANIZATION - Formal groupings and specializations of activities - Organization structure determine: o How resources are allocated o Who has authority over those resource o Who is really in charge of the project Functional Organization - Traditional organizational form - Based upon organizing resources to perform specialized tasks or activities - Individuals and subunits perform similar functions and have similar area of expertise - Projects are housed within a particular function ( eg. Manufacturing project resides in the manufacturing function) - Project may cross functional boundaries. Issues Who will be responsible for the project? What resource each subunit provide? Advantages Increased Flexibility Breadth & Depth of Knowledge & Experience Less Duplication Disadvantages Determining Authority & Responsibility Poor Response Time Poor Integration Project Organization - Supports projects as the dominant form of business - Each project is treated as separate and relatively independent unit within organization - Project Manager has authority over and responsibility for the project and its resources - Parent or supporting organization provides financial and administrative controls Advantages Clear Authority & Responsibility Improved Communication High Level of Integration Disadvantages Project Isolation Duplication of Effort “Projectitis” – Occurs when the project manager & team develop strong attachment to project and each other. As a result they have difficult time letting go and the project has no real end in sight
